
Russian is an East Slavic language spoken chiefly in European Russia. There are about 120 million first-language Russian speakers and another 100 million second-language speakers. Russian is spoken to some extent in most of the former constituent republics of the former USSR. In Israel there about 750,000 Russian speakers due to the immigration of Russian Jews. About 330,000 Doukhobors and Molokans in the United States, chiefly in California and the west, are Russian speakers. See also East Slavic languages.
